Craft fair this Saturday to benefit Waxahachie Care

The fifth WCS Craft Fair and Marketplace to benefit Waxahachie Care Services will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Coleman Junior High School, 1000 N. U.S. Highway 77, Waxahachie.

This year, the event will feature more than 80 craft and food vendors, along with the Easter bunny and several food trucks also on site. Admission is free, with donations accepted on behalf of Waxahachie Care, a nonprofit that serves the community in several ways, including utility assistance and as a choice food pantry.

“We started the craft fair to raise awareness of Waxahachie Care and what they do for the community,” organizer Kim Kriegel said. “It’s fun, and there’s no charge to attend.”

The family-friendly event helps to usher in the spring, with Kriegel noting that the Easter bunny will be on hand again this year for attendees of all ages to enjoy and take photos with. And, she said, as far as the vendors go, it will be another stellar gathering of items for sale.

The dozens of booths will feature everything from stained glass to porch signs, wreaths, jewelry, woodworking, quilts, bottlecap art, apparel, crochet, children’s toys, and many other handmade arts and crafts.

“It’s basically an assortment of everything you can have,” Kriegel said, adding that many of the vendors who are participating in the Waxahachie Care craft fair are also regular participants in the Coleman Junior High Old-Fashioned Craft Show, held each November to benefit the Waxahachie ISD Student in Need Fund.

Kriegel is especially excited about the several food trucks that will be at the Waxahachie Care craft fair this coming Saturday, including Mindy Lu’s Pies and Mr. Beefy’s, and the excitement doesn’t end there as she also wants people to know that Kevin Crouch of South Metro Weather will be in attendance to “talk all things weather.”

The craft fair is also hosting a side fundraiser to sell tickets for a drawing that will benefit Westin Whitford of Waxahachie, who is facing the challenge of medical expenses.
