Harrison pre-files bills for 89th Legislature

As of Friday, Jan. 3, state Rep. Brian Harrison (R-Midlothian) had pre-filed 43 bills for the upcoming 89th Legislature, which kicks off at the state Capitol in Austin on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and continues through Monday, June 2.

Across the Legislature to date, the House has seen 1,720 pre-filed bills, while the Senate has seen 697. The last day for members can file a bill is Friday, March 14.

Harrison’s proposed legislation encompasses taxation, health and medical, and transparency among other topics.

TAXATION

HB 217 – Relating to the vote required in an election to approve an ad valorem tax rate that exceeds a taxing unit's voter-approval tax rate; making conforming changes.

HB 250 – Relating to the calculation of certain ad valorem tax rates of a taxing unit and the manner in which a proposed ad valorem tax rate that exceeds the voter-approval tax rate is approved; making conforming changes.

HB 698 – Relating to the abolition of ad valorem taxes and the creation of a joint interim committee on the abolition of those taxes.

HB 774 – Relating to municipal and county ad valorem tax relief.

HB 829 – Relating to the text of ballot propositions that increase taxes.

HB 1333 – Relating to toll collection and enforcement by toll project entities; authorizing an administrative fee; imposing a civil penalty.
