(RED OAK, Texas) - Texas State Technical College’s North Texas campus began the spring semester on Monday, Jan. 13, with an unofficial student population of more than 375 students.

“What is really cool and exciting is seeing the maturity of the campus,” said Marcus Balch, provost of TSTC’s North Texas campus. “We are growing to the point of needing more instructors and more support staff.”

Balch said it is great seeing labs and classrooms full of students throughout the days and evenings.

Aaron Anderson lives in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas and has begun his second semester in TSTC’s HVAC Technology program. He is working on a certificate of completion.

Anderson said he looks forward to finishing his Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 technician certification this semester so he can get a job in the HVAC field. His other goal is to stay focused on his studies.

“It can be hard with work and learning,” Anderson said. “It can be draining.”

Anderson said he was inspired to pursue the HVAC field when he was told last summer how much it would cost to fix the air conditioning at his house.

Students already have activities to look forward to this semester.

Braeden Berger, TSTC’s Advocacy and Resource Center coach at the North Texas campus, said a Community Resource Fair for students is planned for Thursday, Feb. 6. April will feature Texan Day, TSTC’s version of a field day for students, along with a scavenger hunt.

TSTC’s official campus and statewide enrollment numbers will be finalized on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
