Waxahachie Wonders Walking Group kicks off at Waxahachie Senior Center

The Waxahachie Senior Center announces the launch of the Waxahachie Wonders Walking Group, a new movement initiative aimed at promoting fitness, socialization, and overall well-being for seniors in the community. The group officially kicked off on Thursday, March 6, and will continue to meet at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday thereafter.

The walking group is designed to provide seniors with a fun and accessible way to stay active while enjoying the camaraderie of others. Walkers of all fitness levels are encouraged to participate, whether they prefer a leisurely stroll or a more brisk pace. The group will meet at the senior center before setting off on a walk on the path surrounding the building

“Regular physical activity is crucial for maintaining health and independence as we age,” said Danae Hicks, county Extension agent from the Ellis County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. “This walking group offers a fantastic opportunity for our seniors to stay active, make new friends, and enjoy the beauty of our community.”

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle.

“Walk at your pace, maybe you stay with me, maybe you go ahead of my group,” said Eddison O’Connor, group leader. “Find a group that fits for your pace, one that makes it fun and still gives you those health benefits of moving your body.”
